About the Trust

Under the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003, The Sunbury Public Cemetery is considered a ‘Class B cemetery’ and is managed by a volunteer board of trust members. Trust members are appointed by the Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Minister for Health.
The Trust manage the cemetery to ensure it is a place for peace and internment now and into the future, as well as acknowledge and maintain the sites important history and heritage.


Richard Vandeloo JP
Chair

Richard Vandeloo JP is an accomplished financial professional and community leader, currently serving as the Chair and Treasurer of the Sunbury Cemetery Trust. With a wealth of knowledge and experience in financial management, forensic accounting, and senior management within the public service, Richard brings a valuable skill set to his roles.

A lifelong Sunbury local, Richard has cultivated a strong connection to the community and a passion for volunteering. His commitment to Sunbury is evident in his leadership style, marked by collaboration and inclusivity. Richard believes in harnessing the collective strengths of trust members to optimize the trust’s performance and benefit the community it serves.

In his capacity as Treasurer, Richard’s financial acumen and strategic approach contribute significantly to the fiscal health of the Sunbury Cemetery Trust. His expertise ensures sound financial management and accountability, essential elements in the effective operation of the trust.

Ann Potter
Deputy Chair

Ann Potter is a seasoned community leader with a strong connection to Sunbury, having served as a former Mayor and Councillor representing the Sunbury community at Hume City Council. Her extensive experience in local governance, advocacy, and community leadership has positioned her as a respected figure within the region.

As a longstanding member of the Sunbury Cemetery Trust, Ann has played an integral role in the organization’s growth and development. In her current capacity as Deputy Chair, she brings a pragmatic and results-oriented approach to her responsibilities.

Ann’s expertise in governance is particularly evident in her leadership role, where she oversees the Trust’s work in good governance and policy development. Her commitment to transparency, ethical conduct, and community welfare ensures that the trust operates efficiently and in alignment with the best interests of the Sunbury community.

With a track record of effective representation and a focus on practical outcomes, Ann Potter continues to contribute significantly to the Sunbury Cemetery Trust, upholding its mission with professionalism and dedication.

Jarrod Bell MAIES
Trust Secretary

Jarrod Bell was first appointed to the Sunbury Cemetery Trust in November of 2021 and currently serves as the Trust’s Secretary.

Jarrod brings with him a wealth of community, governance, services provision, strategic planning, government relations as well as issues and risk management experience.

An elected Councillor with Hume City Council, representing Jacksons Creek Ward, he brings a unique local government perspective to the work of the Trust while also facilitating strong working connections with both State and Local Governments.

As lifelong Sunbury local Jarrod is passionate about community and civic participation, encouraging volunteering in our community and is keen to see the ‘Friends of the Sunbury Cemetery’ group grow and develop into something special.

Jarrod currently works in the public sector with a leading land management agency.

Jarrod is excited to be a member of a team that is dedicated to the preservation and celebration of an important part of our communities evolving story. He is committed to seeing the Sunbury Public Cemetery become a place where locals and visitors alike come to visit those that they love and care for or to learn about our communities rich history.

Malcolm Cook
Trust Member

Malcolm Cook was first appointed to the Sunbury Cemetery Trust in November 2021.
He has been a local resident of the Sunbury community for the past 15 years with his wife and family, and works in the building industry (electrical) supply chain. Loyal to the same company for almost 40 years, Mal’s experience in management helps to assist the Trust with strong leadership skills.
Malcolm Cook is the chair of the Friends of Sunbury Cemetery, a community group focussed on promoting interest in the history and heritage of the cemetery, whilst being an advisory committee to the Sunbury Cemetery Trust, and to coordinate community events such as working bees.
He has a strong interest in heritage matters, and also the long-term future of the remembrance park, with his own family having been buried there.
